Ellen Giamportone
Magnolia #2
The magnolias in this group of images came from an enormous tree growing by the side of a country road on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, NC. Not being from the South, and just arriving there from urban Los Angeles to live for what became a few years, I often drove around the countryside (very often), looking for things to photograph. I noticed this particular tree, and stopped to admire it. There were so many blossoms in various stages of opening, displaying its beauty in fullness, and then decaying, that I returned there every few days for weeks to spend time admiring and shooting these incredible flowers on that majestic tree.
